About

I created an app concept called Melody Kingdom make music education more fun for kids aged 7 and up. As they learn, they can grow their own virtual town. Below are the characters and designs I imagined for the app.

Dan Drum

The drum boomed and clattered, sending waves of noise and excitement through the town.

I put each character in a fun and unexpected place to make the designs more playful. Dan Drum is on top of an apartment roof with the sun shining behind him. I also used lots of circles because they’re friendly shapes, and the design is meant for kids.

Gus Guitar

He let his fingers drift over the strings as the waves moved gently beneath the warm sun.

Gus Guitar is floating on a small paper boat out at sea. I designed the waves to look almost like plastic, with a smooth and shiny feel. I spent time getting their shape just right and kept them simple, soft, and very rounded.

Tara Trumpet

The sound of my trumpet filled the town with joy as people danced and spun.

Tara Trumpet stands beside a round castle tower. At first, I planned to make the castle yellow, but I chose a salmon colour instead to create more contrast. The challenge in these scenes was using a limited colour palette while still making everything look bright and colourful.

Vicki Violin

The violin’s calming notes filled the air, settling over everything and eased any worries.

This piece was a bit tricky to design. I stepped slightly outside the colour palette to add a wood tone as it felt right for the scene. In each design I included different types of buildings, like the windmill in this one, to keep things interesting for the viewer.

The townsfolk walked with relaxed smiles beneath the golden sun, a happy and peaceful sight.

I designed this environment artwork to bring the world of Melody Kingdom to life. The shapes are large and rounded, complimenting the character design, while smaller shapes were intentionally avoided to maintain visual consistency.
